Navigône Expands Fleet with Two New Electric Boats, Enhancing Lyon’s River Transport
Lyon, France – On June 20, 2026, the Navigône river transport service in Lyon will welcome two new 100% electric boats, ‘La Soyeuse’ and ‘Le Canut’, to its fleet. These additions mark a significant step in strengthening Lyon’s unique fluvial transport system, which has already attracted nearly 200,000 passengers since its launch in June 2025.
One year after its inauguration, Navigône has successfully established itself as a vital part of Lyon’s urban landscape, connecting Vaise and Confluence along the Saône River. This innovative mode of transport offers a distinctive way to navigate the city, providing scenic views of UNESCO-listed monuments while contributing to sustainable mobility.
“Le Canut” and “La Soyeuse” Set Sail
The two new vessels, named ‘Le Canut’ and ‘La Soyeuse’, will join the existing boats, ‘Le Gone’ and ‘La Fenotte’, effectively doubling the fleet. This expansion will allow Navigône to increase its service frequency to a boat every 15 minutes during peak hours and extend its operating hours, further enhancing convenience for commuters and tourists alike.
Manufactured in Les Sables-d’Olonne, France, and equipped with batteries produced near Lyon, these new catamarans showcase French industrial expertise. Designed with environmental considerations in mind, they aim to minimize noise pollution and protect the Saône’s biodiversity. Each modern catamaran can accommodate up to 90 passengers and is equipped with large bay windows, Wi-Fi, USB charging ports, a dedicated workspace, and bicycle racks, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable journey for all.
New Stop and Future Ambitions
The introduction of ‘La Soyeuse’ and ‘Le Canut’ coincides with the permanent opening of the Saint-Vincent stop, replacing the previous Subsistances stop. This development is a further testament to the ambitious vision of SYTRAL Mobilités, the organization behind the Navigône project.
With a total of four boats now in circulation, Navigône has reached its nominal service capacity, reinforcing its commitment to making the Saône a primary daily transport route – one that is both efficient and pleasant. The service continues to attract a growing number of users, highlighting its success in integrating river transport into the urban fabric of Lyon.
