Lyon, August 26 – The Oh My Gone boutique, a popular destination for products celebrating Lyon’s craftsmanship, is set to close its physical store near Place Bellecour on August 29th, 2026. The announcement was made by store manager Olivier Michel, who emphasized that this move is a strategic shift rather than a complete cessation of business. The company will continue its operations exclusively through its e-commerce platform.

A Strategic Shift for Oh My Gone

Opened in 2018, Oh My Gone quickly established itself as a hub for ‘made in Lyon’ items, ranging from clothing and local produce to various artisan-crafted objects. Olivier Michel, who also manages Lyon City Tour, shared the news on LinkedIn, framing the decision as a necessary re-focusing of the business’s core mission.

“This is not an end, it’s a choice. The choice to refocus on what has driven us from the beginning: bringing Lyon’s savoir-faire to life, in all its forms, by now concentrating on our e-commerce site and on direct relationships with you, our customers,” Michel stated in his post.

Eight Years of Promoting Local Craftsmanship

Over its eight years of operation, the physical store welcomed thousands of visitors, including tourists and loyal Lyonnais customers looking to offer a piece of their city. Michel highlighted the numerous partnerships forged with local artisans and creators, which the store proudly showcased. He reflected on the rich exchanges with customers that formed the true value of this venture.

The store’s initial conviction was simple: “to discover Lyon’s savoir-faire through objects that tell a story, rather than simple souvenirs.” This philosophy resonated with many, creating a unique retail experience that celebrated the city’s heritage.

The Future: Online and Direct Engagement

With the physical closure imminent, customers are encouraged to visit the store one last time to “empty the shelves” before August 29th. The transition to an online-only model signifies a new chapter for Oh My Gone, allowing it to reach a wider audience while maintaining its commitment to promoting Lyon’s unique products.

This decision comes amidst a challenging period for local businesses in Lyon, with some merchants reporting a significant loss of clientele over the summer. However, Oh My Gone’s move is presented as a proactive strategic choice to adapt to evolving market dynamics and strengthen its online presence.

The shift to e-commerce will enable Oh My Gone to continue its mission of making Lyon’s craftsmanship accessible, fostering direct relationships with customers, and supporting local artisans in a more streamlined and focused manner.
