Nursery Schools Account for the Majority of Investigations
Out of the 203 ongoing investigations, 143 specifically concern nursery schools. Elementary schools are involved in 36 investigations, while 24 others relate to nurseries. In addition to these active cases, 47 files have been closed without further action.
In response to the series of incidents, the City of Paris announced a new plan against violence towards children this spring. This plan focuses on transparency with families, systematic processing of reports, professionalization of staff, and enhanced background checks during recruitment.
Furthermore, an independent commission, chaired by former children’s judge Antoine Garapon, began its work in early July. This commission is specifically tasked with investigating sexual violence committed against children within municipal structures.

The crisis has already had a noticeable impact on family trust. According to figures released by the municipality in July and reported by Le Monde, registrations for Parisian leisure centers decreased by 13% during the summer of 2026. This figure represents an approximate 10.5% reduction when accounting for demographic decline.
