Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon, August 4 – A private security guard employed by a Grand Frais store in Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon is in serious condition after being intentionally struck by a truck driver last Thursday night. The incident, which occurred in the store’s car park, has led to the 61-year-old suspect being charged with attempted murder and placed in pre-trial detention.

Nighttime Altercation Leads to Horrific Incident

The incident unfolded in the early hours of Thursday night when the security guard responded to an alarm at the Grand Frais store in Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon, near Lyon. Upon arrival, he encountered a truck driver who claimed to be there to collect waste. An altercation reportedly ensued between the two men.

According to reports from Le Progrès and confirmed by actu Lyon, the situation escalated dramatically when the 61-year-old driver deliberately ran over the security guard with his truck. The victim was then dragged for several meters, sustaining severe injuries.

Victim in Critical Condition, Suspect Charged with Attempted Murder

The security guard was rushed to Édouard Herriot Hospital in an absolute emergency, where his vital prognosis was initially engaged, indicating a life-threatening condition. Four days after the events, the Lyon public prosecutor’s office requested the suspect’s placement in pre-trial detention, following his indictment for attempted murder.

The suspect, whose identity has not been released, denied any intention to hit the guard during his police custody. However, surveillance footage of the scene reportedly shows the driver intentionally hitting the victim.

Investigation Underway to Determine Motive

An judicial investigation for attempted murder was opened on August 1st, as announced by the Lyon public prosecutor’s office on Tuesday. Authorities are working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident, including why the security guard was struck and whether the waste collection was indeed scheduled for that time of night, around 1:30 AM.

The suspect was presented to the judge of liberties and detention over the weekend for pre-trial detention. He requested a delay to prepare his defense and has been placed in a cell pending the judge’s decision.
