Paris, May 29 – The bodies of two elderly sisters were discovered on Friday morning in their apartment in the 19th arrondissement of Paris, near Buttes-Chaumont. The Paris public prosecutor’s office has opened a murder investigation following the discovery.

Discovery by Building Caretaker Leads to Investigation

The lifeless bodies of the two women were found in an apartment on Rue d’Hautpoul. The grim discovery was made by the building’s caretaker, who had initially encountered the victims’ brother wandering outside. After accompanying him back to his residence, the caretaker noticed a strong odor emanating from the sisters’ apartment.

“The caretaker saw the brother of these two women wandering around. He then accompanied him back to his home. Noticing a strong smell, he became concerned about the health of the two women, whom he discovered dead, apparently from blows,” the prosecutor’s office detailed.

Victims Identified and Autopsies Scheduled

The victims were born in 1935 and 1939, making them 91 and 87 years old respectively. Autopsies are scheduled to be carried out in the coming days to determine the exact cause of their deaths. The investigation has been entrusted to the 2nd judicial police district.

The prosecutor’s office has not yet confirmed whether the victims’ brother, born in 1936, has been taken into custody in connection with the case.
