Lyon, May 5, 2026 – The historic Villa Florentine, an iconic establishment nestled on Fourvière hill in Lyon’s 5th arrondissement, has officially reopened its doors following a comprehensive four-month renovation project. The soft opening took place on Thursday, April 30, marking a new chapter for the 17th-century edifice.
A Rich History Reimagined
Originally founded in the 17th century amidst a significant influx of Italian artists to Lyon, the building has served various purposes, from a convent to an educational institution, before transforming into a hotel. In late 2025, it was acquired by Beauvallon, a family-owned Lyon-based hotel collection, which initiated the extensive refurbishment.
The renovation, led by Joséphine Fossey since January, meticulously preserved the building’s original structure while infusing a fresh, yet timeless, aesthetic. According to a press release, “the decoration was conceived as if it had always existed, articulated around a stylistic triptych: monastic, Florentine, and Lyonnaise.”
Enhanced Luxury and Gastronomy
The revitalized Villa Florentine now offers 36 elegantly appointed rooms and suites, ranging from 23 to 128 square meters. A central focus of the redesign was to highlight the breathtaking views of Lyon, providing guests with an unparalleled visual experience.
Gastronomy remains a cornerstone of the Villa Florentine experience, now under the direction of Chef Henri Carlier. The culinary offerings include fine dining, bistronomy, brunches, a sophisticated bar, and a charming tea room, catering to diverse palates and occasions.
A New Era of Relaxation
A significant addition to the hotel’s amenities is the revamped relaxation area. The spa has been entirely redesigned, drawing inspiration from both the Florentine thermal baths of the Renaissance and the serene rituals of monastic life. While the hotel has begun its soft opening, the spa, along with the final eight suites, is scheduled to open its doors to guests in June.
Commitment to Excellence
The reopening of Villa Florentine underscores a commitment to providing an exceptional luxury experience in Lyon. The careful blend of historical reverence and modern comfort aims to solidify its position as a premier destination for both local and international visitors. The extensive renovations ensure that the hotel continues to offer a unique blend of heritage and contemporary luxury, promising an unforgettable stay for its guests.
The management expressed enthusiasm for the future, anticipating that the refreshed ambiance and expanded services will enhance the guest experience and contribute to Lyon’s vibrant hospitality scene.
Further details regarding the spa’s grand opening and special packages will be announced closer to the June launch date.
