Young Man Critical After Unprovoked Attack in Paris
Paris, May 1 – A young man is in critical condition and in an artificial coma after being violently attacked without apparent reason by a homeless man in Paris on the night of Saturday, April 25, to Sunday, April 26, 2026. Brutal Assault Near Canal Saint-Martin
The incident took place around 11 PM near Raoul-Follereau Square, not far from the Canal Saint-Martin in the 10th arrondissement. According to the prosecutor’s office, the victim was struck multiple times with a wooden plank by a homeless man. Reports suggest that two friends of the victim subsequently retaliated, assaulting the perpetrator.
The victim was immediately transported to the hospital where he was placed in an artificial coma. “He remains in an absolute emergency state,” stated the prosecutor’s office. Alexandra Cordebard (PS), Mayor of the 10th arrondissement, expressed her sorrow on X: “I learned with emotion of the aggression suffered by a young man in the 10th, near the Canal Saint-Martin. While he is currently in intensive care, I wish him a speedy recovery and my thoughts are with his loved ones.”
Perpetrator Hospitalized in Psychiatry, Arrest Imminent
The alleged attacker was initially taken to Lariboisière Hospital for injuries sustained during the retaliation by the victim’s friends. Following this, he was transferred to the psychiatric infirmary of the police prefecture. The public ministry has announced that an arrest warrant for attempted voluntary homicide will be issued against the suspect, who is expected to be placed in police custody shortly.
